Adobe Releases Quarterly Patches, Enables Auto Updater

Adobe on Tuesday released its quarterly load of patches, including an update for Adobe Reader that fixes several critical vulnerabilities. The company also used the opportunity to enable the new automatic updater in both Reader and Acrobat.

The vulnerabilities in Reader could give an attacker the ability to run arbitrary code on a vulnerable machine.The April quarterly update fixes 15 total vulnerabilities in Reader and Acrobat. The new automatic updater functionality, which Adobe has been testing in beta form since October, gives users the choice of whether to download and install patches automatically.

On Tuesday, April 13, 2010, as part of our quarterly update, we will activate the new updater for all users needing Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9.3.2 and 8.2.2 for Windows and Macintosh. As of yesterday, April 7, 2010, we have been activating our new updater for those users who are not yet up-to-date with our latest versions. Today also is Microsoft's monthly Patch Tuesday, and the company released 11 patches for a variety of products.
