Fake Facebook Alert Emails Link to Black Hole Sites

Attackers are sending spoofed “pending notification” emails to Facebook users, claiming that the recipients overlooked some alert on the world’s largest social network, and providing them with a link that supposedly leads to the allegedly neglected content but which, in reality, funnels users to a series of compromised websites hosting the Black Hole Exploit Kit, according to researcher Dancho Danchev.

Still Smarting, Anonymous Releases 20,000 More HBGary Emails

More e-mail messages believed to belong to HBGary Federal Chief Operating Officer Greg Hoglund were posted online Sunday, fulfilling a promise by online mischief making group Anonymous to further embarrass the Washington D.C. security firm, whose CEO aroused the ire of the hacktivists last week. 

Reports Show the Prevalence of Spam Dropping

A Kaspersky Lab research report for November 2010 showed
the amount of email based spam fell 0.06 percent to 76.8 percent from October.
The study also showed there was a .47 percent decrease in the prevalence of
phishing emails across all mail traffic and a .13 percent decrease in the frequency
of malicious files found in email.
