Apple, Google to Testify at Smart Phone Tracking Hearing

After a bruising series of revelations about location tracking features on mobile devices running their operating systems, Apple and Google will send executives to Capitol Hill to talk to the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law about cell phone privacy.

GSM mobile phone networks are becoming the backbone of communications and commerce in the developed and developing worlds, but those networks may be easily susceptible to eavesdropping, according to a presentation at the annual Chaos Communication Congress (CCC) in Berlin. 

Cybercriminals have found a new launching pad for their scams: the phone systems of small and medium-sized businesses across the U.S.

In recent weeks, they have hacked into dozens of telephone systems across the country, using them as a way to contact unsuspecting bank customers and trick them into divulging their bank account numbers and passwords.  Read the full story [IDG News Service/Robert McMillan]
