Cellphone owners now account for 88 percent of the U.S. population, of which some 43 percent say they download applications on their phones. Among these ‘app users,’ 57 percent told the Pew Internet and American Life Project that they have either uninstalled existing applications or made the decision to not install an application altogether after determining the amount of personal information required as a permission to install.

If the folks behind the photo sharing Web site Pinterest were looking for some validation that their fledgelings social media site had “arrived,” they got it this weekend, after scammers jumped on the site and used it to direct Pinterest users to survey scam Web sites.

A survey conducted by Information Security Media found that new fraud methods, including phishing
and Internet enabled account takeovers are an increasing problem for
banks, but that many organizations are ill equipped to combat the new
threats.
