As the now famous iOS hacker best known as “Comex,” Nicholas Allegra was more than willing to weigh in on the vulnerabilities of Apple’s iOS mobile operating system. But now that he has accepted a position as an intern at Apple, Comex said his jailbreaking days are over.
In an “ask me anything” session on the link sharing site Reddit, Allegra said he wasn’t able to talk about his future work at the Cupertino, California company that is renowned for its cult of secrecy. However, Allegra was confident that jailbreaking wouldn’t be part of it – though Allegra said he hoped to continue hacking his own phone.
Responding to questions in Reddit’s iPhone subreddit before vanishing behind Apple’s legendary veil of secrecy, the former Brown freshman fielded questions about the future of his popular iOS jailbreak tools and explained how a Jedi-level iOS hacker like himself could be interested in a lowly internship. Despite his renown online, Allegra reminded his audience that he was still just a teenager and with one semester of college under his belt. He plans on heading back to the East Coast to finish his computer science degree at Brown after his Cupertino sojourn. He also said he was happy with having an internship, somewhat hilariously, because he has never had a job before.
As for his longterm vocational views, Allegra thinks he’ll eventually grow tire of security, and hopes to not end up working in that industry.
