Microsoft joined Sesame Street as the latest high profile organization to have its official Youtube channel hacked and hijacked, according to a report from GeekWire.
Microsoft videos that had been posted in the channel were removed and replaced with solicitations for sponsorship fme before Microsoft regained control of the channel, according to a report on GeekWire.
Microsoft has since regained control, releasing the following statement:
“We have regained control of the Microsoft channel on YouTube, and we are working to restore all of the original content. We will continue to work with YouTube to ensure safeguards are in place for the future.”
This is just the latest high profile YouTube channel to be hijacked. On October 16, a channel used by the children’s television show Sesame Street was hijacked. Video content hosted on the site was replaced with hardcore pornography. The site was taken down shortly after for violations of YouTube’s community guidelines, according to reports.
