Stephen Colbert Riffs On HBGary Breach

The controversy over the hack of D.C. security firm HBGary burst into the spotlight last week when comedian Stephen Colbert weighed in on the back and forth between HBGary Federal CEO Aaron Barr and the online mischief making group Anonymous.

As Threatpost has noted, the incident, which began with Barr promising to expose the senior leadership of Anonymous at a security conference, has raised troubling questions about the workings of IT security firms within the beltway. Anonymous responded to Barr’s boasts by hacking HBGary’s Web site and e-mail server, and publishing the correspondence of company executives online. Those emails revealed HBGary to be at work on a number of projects that seemed to be intended to discredit Anonymous, the whistleblower site Wikileaks and its supporters as well as other targets.

Colbert, in his inimicable style, does a great job rehashing the story, while also having some fun at Barr and Anonymous’s expense.
