In 2009, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security hatched a plan to use body-odor as a method of identifying individuals. The DHS wanted to establish odor based biometric signatures that could uniquely identify both friend and foe. It then might be able to determine if changes in odor could be used as a tool to provide evidence of deception. Civil liberty groups cried foul.


A new attack against online banking customers uses a malware platform to trick its victims into verifying bogus transactions.The attack, first described by Trusteer CTO Amit Klein, waits for an unsuspecting business banking customer to log online before telling them that “security checks” need to be performed.

The US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced plans Tuesday to break ground on a new center that will be committed to cybersecurity research. The National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence will be built near NIST’s Gaithersburg, Md., campus in hopes of strengthening the country’s cybersecurity products and services.
