DNSSEC Ready for .Com Security Layer

The DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) will be equipped for the “.com” entity by March 31, according to a PCMag.com report.While DNSSEC enhances DNS security as it is, the newly added .com security will act as an extra layer of protection, according to according to Matt Larson, the Vice President of DNS Research at Verisign.

While DNSSEC enhances DNS security as it is, the newly added .com security will act as an extra layer of protection, according to according to Matt Larson, the Vice President of DNS Research at Verisign.

Developed by Verisign and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the .com zone will be digitally signed and will help verify that respective URLs haven’t been meddled with.

DNSSEC usage has grown in the last few years, with the protocol expanding to all of the internet’s root servers in 2010. More improvements in DNS security and further implementation of DNSSEC surely come as good news to Dan Kaminsky, whose 2008 DNS vulnerability rattled the IT security world with its much publicized disclosure.
